NANCY TANKERSLEY - Keeping it Fresh: Painting Figures from Photos

All Levels. Through lecture and painting exercises, Nancy will help you select photographs that will make great paintings. She will demonstrate her methods of working with photos in order to produce a painting that looks as though it were painted from life. Also discussed will be how to manipulate photographs on photo editing programs. You may work with photos brought from home or use those provided by Nancy. This workshop is designed to give you the fundamental tools and skills to paint and draw from life. Working from still life, Jordan will teach you how to translate what you see into convincing and successful renditions! He will start off with basic drawing skills, developing proportion, shading and composition, and then move on to color, with a step-by-step understanding of oil paint and how to use it. CAROL MARINE, NEW Instructor - Oils, A Painting a Day

All Levels. Whether you are painting for a living or hobby, painting small and often is a powerful way to rapidly improve your skills. In this 4-day workshop, Carol will introduce you to the world of "daily painters" -- those who do small paintings every day, post photographs of their paintings on a blog, and then sell them through eBay. Much of the time will be spent on the basic principles of design, the rules of composition, value, color, and shape, and how this is applied to small still lives. You will also experiment in color relationships using an alternative to the traditional color wheel, and how each color “leans” towards others. Carol will help you push your compositions to avoid “floating” objects so that you can create a mor successful small painting. There will be daily demos, handouts, and one-on-one critiques. CAMILLE PRZEWODEK - Discovering Color Plein Air Workshop

All Levels. Join award winning plein-air colorist Camille Przewodek as she enlightens you to seeing color in a new way. During this 5-day workshop you will concentrate on the development of a strong start to your painting. Camille will teach the structure of the landscape - what is important to include and what to leave out. You will focus on the abstract relationships of the big shapes and masses of color and their proportions. The workshop will begin with still life study out of doors on the first 2 days, followed by two full days painting on location. On the final day, Camille will work with you on still life, landscape, the head and clothed figure. Demonstrations will be done throughout the workshop. You are welcome to bring in some of your original artwork or photos to talk to Camille about. She will be glad to have you share your personal vision as an artist. Ken presents a no-nonsense, logical approach to creating a strong painting. A true artist explores the depths that go beyond the literal image of subject matter and involves themselves with alchemy of shapes. Kevin believes that the artist who can master beyond this reaches total freedom. You will learn what are the beginning steps to reaching that freedom by trials of learning and exploring. The first day will spent absorbing the wealth of information Kevin has to offer as he lectures in the morning and demos in the afternoon. TIM BELL - Plein Air Passion

All Levels. Using a combination of palette knives and brushes, Tim's illuminating color and ability to capture light and shadow are captivating. In this workshop Tim will work with you on capturing the landscape by accurately portraying the effect of light that are reflective of American Impressionism. Along with plenty of outdoor painting near the Miles River, Tim will demonstrate his outdoor painting approach as well as his design concepts. The entire workshop will be held in picturesque St. Michaels on the grounds of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum where you will be surrounded by the beauty and history of the Eastern Shore. All Levels. Sharing her twenty years of experience as a landscape painter, Lisa's focus for this workshop will be on paintings of nature, with an emphasis on natural shorelines. Lisa will work with you on composition, light, and building a well-structured painting incorporating the many elements of nature that are reflected within a scene. This includes capturing unique colors, shapes, flora and fauna of a given location in a sophisticated interpretation. Be prepared to paint outdoors for at least one of the two days.
