ANNE BLAIR BROWN, NEW Instructor - Translating Reference Materials to Paintings

All Levels. In this workshop you will learn to use your "visual memory" for inspiration while you translate reference material into paintings that reflect the spontaneity of real life. During the first part of the workshop, students will paint from life and use that study to create larger paintings as the workshop continues. Anne will point out the challenges of placing the subject(s) in interior spaces, the element of perspective, and the step by step methods of simplifying these often complex issues in order to create one unified painting. Demonstrations, discussion and exercises will be given daily as Anne works with each student to hone your compositional skills, make your color "sing", and reinforce your ability to capture the essence of your subject quickly. LOUIS ESCOBEDO - Still Life

All Levels. This workshop focuses on teaching you how to capture the character and color of still life painting with an emphasis on value structure. CHARLIE HUNTER - NEW Instructor - "Portraits" of the Architectural Landscape

All Levels. The focus of this two-day plein air workshop will be on Charlie's unique process for rendering the architectural landscape. You will work from careful observation, preliminary sketching and use a palette of muted earth-tones as Charlie walks you through how he approaches the landscape and structures within. TOM LYNCH - The Watercolor Experience

All Levels. Master watercolorist and educator, Tom Lynch, will show you the vast range and flexibility of watercolor and how to put emotion and conviction into your painting. Not only will he put fun into the painting process, but will add enthusiasm, new techniques, and individual attention to the mix. CAMILLE PRZEWODEK - Discover a New Way of Seeing Color

All Levels. Color that expresses the light key of nature can make even the most mundane subject matter strikingly beautiful. In this workshop, award-winning colorist, Camille Przewodek, will take you on a visual journey towards better painting. Concentrating on the development of a strong start to approaching the canvas, Camille will teach the structure of the landscape - what is important to include and what to leave out. You will focus on the abstract relationships of the big shapes and masses of color and their proportions. The workshop will begin with a still life study out of doors followed by two full days painting on location. On the final day, you will concentrate on color studies of the figure. All Levels. “The gamut of paint is far smaller than the gamut of our visual reality. Values, color, and edges must be painted relative to one another; not piecemeal.” This concept and suggestions regarding value, color, and edge relationship will be the focus of the figure painting workshop and will be reinforced through lecture and demonstration. Working from the model, students will explore the art of painting portraits, nude, and costumed subjects. Robert will address the use of tools and materials as well as provide his suggestions regarding procedure. You will paint under both cool and warm light so as to reach a greater understanding of how the color of the light source effects the relationship of the color of the light and shadow in one's motif. All Levels. Sharing her twenty years of experience as a landscape painter, Lisa's focus for this workshop will be on paintings of nature, with an emphasis on natural shorelines. Lisa will work with you on composition, light, and building a well-structured painting incorporating the many elements of nature that are reflected within a scene. This includes capturing unique colors, shapes, flora and fauna of a given location in a sophisticated interpretation. Be prepared to paint outdoors for at least one of the two days.
