NANCY TANKERSLEY - Keeping it Fresh: Painting Figures from Photos

For All Levels. Through lecture and painting exercises, Nancy will help you select photographs that will make great paintings. She will demonstrate her methods of working with photos in order to produce a painting that looks as though it were painted from life. Also discussed will be how to manipulate photographs on photo editing programs. You may work with photos brought from home or use those provided by Nancy. The focus of this class will be on Alla Prima (direct wet into wet) oil painting and the various techniques used to create a fresh, spontaneous response to your subject matter while the paint is still wet. For All Levels. Whether you are painting for a living or hobby, painting small and often is a powerful way to rapidly improve your skills. In this 4-day workshop, Carol will introduce you to the world of "daily painters" -- those who do small paintings every day, post photographs of their paintings on a blog, and then sell them through eBay. Much of the time will be spent on the basic principles of design, the rules of composition, value, color, and shape, and how this is applied to small still lives. You will also experiment in color relationships using an alternative to the traditional color wheel, and how each color “leans” towards others. Carol will help you push your compositions to avoid “floating” objects so that you can create a mor successful small painting. There will be daily demos, handouts, and one-on-one critiques. SARA LINDA POLY - Painting Skies, Clouds and Dramatic Light

Join Sara as she works with you on some of the key elements of painting skies and clouds.This workshop will focus on simplifying these elements by using keen observation of the landscape while making sure the sky is a part of the entire composition. CAMILLE PRZEWODEK - Discovering Color Plein Air Workshop

For All Levels. Join award winning plein-air colorist Camille Przewodek as she enlightens you to seeing color in a new way. During this 5-day workshop you will concentrate on the development of a strong start to your painting. Camille will teach the structure of the landscape - what is important to include and what to leave out. You will focus on the abstract relationships of the big shapes and masses of color and their proportions. The workshop will begin with a still life study out of doors on the first 2 days, followed by two full days painting on location. On the final day, Camille will work with you on still life, landscape, the head and clothed figure. Demonstrations will be done throughout the workshop. For All Levels. Sharing her twenty years of experience as a landscape painter, Lisa's focus for this workshop will be on paintings of nature, with an emphasis on natural shorelines. Lisa will work with you on composition, light, and building a well-structured painting incorporating the many elements of nature that are reflected within a scene. This includes capturing unique colors, shapes, flora and fauna of a given location in a sophisticated interpretation. Be prepared to paint outdoors for at least one of the two days. Intermediate to Advanced. Join one of the country's top watercolor artists in this three-day plein air watercolor workshop. Jerry will work closely with each student in order to take your watercolors to the next level.
